Job Description

Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Field Engineer I will support the project team through pre-construction, construction, and close out. The Field Engineer will support safe, efficient, and high-quality construction by coordinating daily field activities, interpreting plans and specifications, and assisting with production tracking. This position works closely with the PM, Superintendent, and field crews to prepare work plans, monitor progress, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure compliance with design and schedule. (This is not a remote work option position.)

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contracts.
  • Monitor and document construction activities, including excavation, tunneling, concrete placement, and utility installations.
  • Identify and bring to management’s attention field issues (e.g., differing site conditions, equipment malfunctions) and propose potential solutions.
  • Schedule inspections and tests (e.g., soil compaction, concrete strength) to ensure compliance with project standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce OSHA and site-specific safety protocols, participating in safety audits and addressing hazards (e.g., trench stability, fall protection).
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records, including daily reports, RFIs, and change order documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, inspectors and testers.
  • Compile as-built documentation using Bluebeam
  • Review progress against project schedules, identifying and discuss possible recovery plans with the project team.
  • Establish proactive Quality Assurance processes and standards to prevent defects and ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Quality Control inspection and testing of work in progress to verify that construction activities conform to specifications.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with tunneling projects or utility installations preferred.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical reports (e.g., GBR) and managing differing site conditions.
  • Knowledge of local regulations and permit requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, Construction Management or Civil Engineering degree preferred.
  • Software: Trimble/Viewpoint Vista, Trimble Teams, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite preferred.
  • Safe driving record is a must.
  • Soft Skills:

  3. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to coordinate with diverse stakeholders.
  4. Adaptability to work in dynamic, fast-paced field environments.
  • Ability to work on active construction sites, including walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours or weekends as project demands require.

SALARY RANGE: $58,000 to $72,000 annually (depending on experience)
